How to Create Forwarders and Email Routing in cPanel
Introduction
Email forwarders allow you to redirect incoming emails from one email address to another, helping you manage your messages efficiently. Email routing lets you specify how your server handles incoming mail for your domain, ensuring messages are delivered correctly.
Prerequisites
- Access to your cPanel hosting account.
- Email accounts already set up in cPanel or external email addresses to forward to.
Part 1: Creating Email Forwarders in cPanel
- Log in to your cPanel dashboard.
- Scroll down to the Email section and click on Forwarders.
- Click the Add Forwarder button.
- In the form:
- Enter the Address to Forward (the part before your domain, e.g.,
info
ininfo@yourdomain.com
). - Choose your domain from the dropdown menu if you have multiple domains.
- Enter the destination email address where you want to forward emails. This can be an internal email on the same server or an external address like Gmail.
- Enter the Address to Forward (the part before your domain, e.g.,
- Click Add Forwarder to save your settings.
Part 2: Configuring Email Routing in cPanel
Email routing settings determine how your mail server processes incoming emails for your domain. This is especially important if you use external email services like Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace.
- From your cPanel dashboard, scroll to the Email section and click Email Routing.
- Select your domain from the dropdown if necessary.
- Choose the appropriate routing option:
- Automatically Detect Configuration: cPanel attempts to detect the correct routing.
- Local Mail Exchanger: Use if your emails are handled on the current cPanel server.
- Backup Mail Exchanger: If your server is a backup mail server for your domain.
- Remote Mail Exchanger: Use when your email is hosted on an external service like Google Workspace or Microsoft 365.
- Click Change to save your selection.
Troubleshooting Tips
- If forwarded emails are not arriving, verify that the destination address is correct and active.
- Check your spam/junk folder for forwarded emails.
- Verify your MX records and email routing configuration if emails are not delivered as expected.
